Frances Greenblatt is a Registered Nurse, who spent most of her nursing career working with children.

She started writing poetry and short stories as a child, and wrote many stories for her own children's enjoyment. The Purple Cow was written as a lesson in tolerance and diversity.

Frances has had poems published in several magazines, and has written many articles for professional journals.

The reactions of the children to her book has been most gratifying.

Upon being presented with the Mechanical Drawing Award, when he graduated High School, Marty knew his future would somehow involve drawing.

After Army service, during the Korean war, Marty enrolled at Mondell Institute for a course in Architectural Drafting.

For the next 35 years Marty worked in the construction products field, as a Draftsman, Estimator, Consultant, Supervisor, and Vice-President; at three prominent firms.

Throughout all of those years he continued honing his painting and drawing skills.

Today in retirement, he still attends a weekly Art Workshop group. He has exhibited oil paintings at Public Libraries in, Monroe Township, Middletown, and the Thompson Park Mansion Gallery in Lincroft. All New Jersey venues, where he now resides.

A new career as an illustrator began, when Fran Greenblatt, the author of, "The Purple Cow", children's book, asked him to illustrate her story.

Being involved with children comes easily to Marty. He, and his wife Lillian, (who are celebrating their 56th anniversary), are the proud parents of three, the prouder grand parents of ten, and the very, very, proud great-grandparents of four. They have their very own Proof Reading Department for children's books.

I wrote The Purple Cow in 1960, for my children, as a lesson in tolerance and diversity.

America was not integrated at that time.

Research has shown that children, as young as eight; already have deeply ingrained prejudices. The Purple Cow is a simple story geared for children, ages three to eight; those who can read a little, and those who enjoy having a story read to them. This is an excellent way to inform and educate them about the diverse mix of people that inhabit our world, and how we must embrace the differences.

The story has been running as a puppet show in Public Schools in Central New Jersey for several years.

A recent decision by the author to publish the story in book form, now makes this wonderful tale available to a wider children's audience.

Martin Rich, Artist & Illustrator, joined with me to graphically portray my story, in a delightfully colored set of illustrations, which greatly enhances the lesson that this book teaches.
